The Commonwealth Edison Comapny's coal fired Crawford Generating Station power plant. Chicago Illinois. April 1989., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph while out enjoying a beautiful springtime afternoon bicycle ride
on my 12 speed mountain bike, way back in April of 1989.
We are on top of the South Pulaski Road bridge on the near southwest side of Chicago, that spans two railroad lines, the I-55 Stevenson Expressway, and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
Facing east we see the coal fired Commonwealth Edison Company's Crawford Generating Station powerplant, which was recently closed in 2012. To the right in the photograph, we see a northbound Chicago Transit Authrity Rt # 53 / Pulaski Road bus enroute to the north terminal at nearby West 31st Street, in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.
The CTA bus, is a mid 1970's era General Motors TDH Series fishbowl windshield bus, that was recently rehabbed and painted in to the then "New" 1989 CTA color scheme.
These buses were retired and removed from
the CTA roster in 1996.
